    The individual is responsible for providing the highest quality scans, plate-making and web maintenance while meeting all required deadlines to ensure a smooth work-flow from editorial, advertising through Pre-press to the pressroom. Availability for various shifts and days. 




    • Scan material supplied by the advertising department to be used in ads and classifieds
    • Path and size all scans to comply with advertising requests
    • Calibrate and colour correct scanned and digital images to meet Spectator manufacturing guidelines
    • Import and set ad elements into completed editorial pages
    • Transmit pages electronically according to layout
    • Copy display ads and assemble classified sections in PBS system to meet Classified formats
    • Transmit finished pages for production into plates
    • Complete quality checks and develop plates on the plate-maker to be delivered to the pressroom
    • Operate CTP plate-maker
    • Extract photos and text electronically to be stored in a database and the Spectator web site
    • Maintain archiving and web update software, backup files
    • Disassemble, clean and change chemistry in the plate-maker processors to maintain high quality standards
    • Complete and enforce all duties in accordance with our Health and Safety policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act



    • Post-Secondary Education
    • Knowledge of  colour theory and impositions
    • Proficiency in Mac/PC operating systems and various software including Quark Xpress and Adobe Photoshop
    • Aptitude to perform ad hoc and preventative equipment maintenance
    • Capacity to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills
    • Ability to learn on the fly and adapt to various roles and responsibilities
    • Knowledge of PBS and HTML
