    The Hamilton Spectator Pressroom currently has an opening for an apprentice pressperson. This position is covered under the terms of the collective agreement. The successful candidate will work a variety of shifts including nights.




    • Work a 90 shift probation period of which the first 30 shifts the person is not included in the press manning
    • During probation the selected candidate will learn to put newsprint rolls in press, make pasters, wash-up after the pressrun and spot printing plates
    • After 90 days as a member of a crew will perform these duties with close attention to accuracy and detail
    • Will then continue learning other aspects of offset printing including webbing up the press, an understanding of inking the press and the fundamental systems and procedures of the press operation
    • Other duties as assigned by foreman



    • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Mechanically inclined person who can grasp the printing process and workings of the press
    • A good team player who works efficiently under deadline pressure
