    The Waterloo Region Record traces its roots to 1878 when the city of Kitchener was known as Berlin. The Record produces award-winning multi-media journalism in print and online at and is proud to have been awarded four national Michener Awards for public service journalism. Serving the communities of the cities of Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge as well as the rural townships of Wellesley, Wilmot, Woolwich and North Dumfries.




    We are currently recruiting for a temporary part-time Receptionist to be the first point of contact for The Records' customers, subscribers and visitors (covering a maternity leave). This position is responsible for greeting customers, collecting payments from customers and ensuring top-notch customer satisfaction. The candidates must be able to work     9 am - 4:30 pm – alternating days.



    • Respond to customers inquiries by phone or email efficiently and accurately
    • Greet customers and direct them to the proper contact in a timely manner
    • Perform a variety of administrative duties and assist with projects, as needed
    • Communicate with staff and customers in a friendly and professional manner
    • Greet and direct visitors in compliance with PCI and Health & Safety policies
    • Maintain an up-to-date internal listing of company contacts
    • Develop and maintain exceptional knowledge of company products and services 
    • Prepare materials for internal and external couriers
    • Maintain reception area product display
    • Act as a liaison for building services
    • Process payments and orders
    • As part of this role, you will be required to handle credit card information. Metroland Media is PCI compliant company, and requires people in this role to take PCI training to handle cards in a safe and compliant manner


    • Completion of high school education
    • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills
    • Helpful, outgoing, enjoys taking initiative
    • Excellent computer skills, competent with MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
    • Experience in handling confidential information
    • Ability to respond to difficult inquiries or situations in a quick and professional manner
    • Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, occasional lifting up to 10kg, keyboarding and bending floor to waist
