    THE OPPORTUNITY

     

    The West of the City Editor is responsible for the planning, assigning, writing and editing of content for each issue while always ensuring the quality of magazine features are topical, interesting and informative. The goal is to produce local content, meet deadlines and work within budget requirements. This may include working with Writers, Photographers and Media Consultants -- either staff or freelance -- to successfully complete each issue. As an Editor, you would develop a working relationship with each, while also meeting the demands of the business side of the operation. This involves working together with the advertising team to collaborate on local content.

     

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    • Selecting timely and seasonal articles for each issue and planning publication contents
    • Generating ideas for articles and features
    • Organizing content meetings with advertising team, writers and designers to discuss and plan the features for the magazine
    • Commissioning features, fashion styling and stories from freelancers
    • Supervising freelance writers, and setting deadlines
    • Reading, writing and researching features and articles
    • Attending relevant social and client events
    • Ensuring that all feature articles meet the demographic target needs
    • Receive emails from editor@westofthecity.com and respond in a timely and appropriate manner
    • Work with support staff to maintain the westofthecity.com site and social media feeds on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
    • Help to execute and publish contests on westofthecity.com through the magazine
    • Plan and host special commemorative and milestone events for the magazine such as; 100 edition party, reader events or showcases, client sponsored events
